We are currently partnered with a well-established engineering company based in Portsmouth, renowned for their work in marine, offshore maintenance, repair, and shipbuilding. Their operations span across military, commercial shipping, and energy sectors, providing high-quality fabrication, installation, and maintenance solutions.\n\nDue to ongoing project demands, particularly a split barge project and upcoming marine refit work, we are seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator to join the team on a long-term basis, with a strong view to permanent employment.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nPerform MIG and MAG welding on mild steel components for marine and offshore structures\n\nFabricate and weld steel plates of various thicknesses to high-quality marine-grade standards\n\nInterpret and work from technical and engineering drawings to ensure accurate fabrication\n\nCarry out burning/cutting operations using Oxy-Propane equipment\n\nAssist in fabrication, installation, repair and modification of marine structures and equipment\n\nSupport dry dock and shipyard repair activities, including shell plating, structural stiffeners, and reinforcement work\n\nOperate general workshop machinery and hand tools, including:\n\nGuillotines\n\nHydraulic steel workers\n\nAngle grinders and gas torches\n\nCarry out work in both workshop and in-situ on marine vessels, occasionally in confined spaces and at heights\n\nMaintain safe working practices in accordance with company HSE procedures and site-specific safety protocols\n\nEssential Requirements:\n\nProven experience in MIG & MAG welding of mild steel in a marine or heavy industrial environment\n\nAbility to support both workshop-based fabrication and onboard vessel repairs and modifications\n\nCompetency in steel burning, measuring, marking out, and assembly techniques\n\nFull UK Driving Licence\n\nWillingness to work occasional weekends, and travel for short durations to support offshore or dockside projects if required\n\nEligibility to work on MOD sites – successful candidates must be able to pass BPSS security clearance (arranged and funded by the client)\n\nA strong work ethic, ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment\n\nDesirable (but not essential):\n\nCurrent or previous MOD site experience\n\nFamiliarity with Lloyds or DNV welding standards\n\nConfined space or working at height certifications\n\nExperience with marine vessel repairs, e.g., split barges, workboats, ferries, or offshore support vessels\n\nWorking Hours:\n\nMonday to Friday: 07:00 – 17:30\n\nOvertime: Paid at time and a third from 15:30 – 17:30\n\nBreaks:\n\nMorning: 10:00 – 10:15\n\nLunch: 13:00 – 13:30\n\nThis is a great opportunity for a welder who wants to be part of a dynamic, fast-growing engineering business at the heart of the UK’s marine and offshore maintenance industry.
