Workday Finance Principal Consultant

Workday Finance Principal Consultant responsible for leveraging the Workday Financial Management system to drive efficient and accurate financial operations. Collaborate closely with finance, accounting, IT, and cross‑functional teams to optimize Workday solutions, ensure data integrity, provide actionable financial insights, and anchor engagement efforts from business process consulting through solution design, development and deployment. Act as a thought leader and key advisor in architecture and design reviews, drive business pursuit initiatives, client training and in‑house capability building.
Responsibilities
Workday System Administration & Configuration: Manage, configure, and maintain Workday Financial Management modules (General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Cash Management, Business Assets, Capital Projects, Procurement, Expenses, Projects, Adaptive Planning, Accounting Center, Prism, Advanced Close and Consolidation). Design, build, and test Workday configurations, business processes, calculated fields, and conditional routing to meet evolving business needs. Analyze bi‑annual release notes, understand their impact on existing configurations, recommend/implement new functionalities. Troubleshoot system issues, perform root cause analysis, and raise escalations as needed.
Financial Process Optimization & Support: Provide end‑user support for Workday Finance modules, gather requirements, translate processes into functional specifications, identify improvement opportunities, conduct testing, develop test plans, and coordinate user acceptance testing. Create and maintain training materials and documentation for effective utilization of Workday functionalities.
Reporting, Analytics & Data Integrity: Develop and maintain custom financial reports, dashboards and KPIs within Workday, conduct financial data analysis to uncover trends and insights, assist in data audits and implement data quality measures. Collaborate with IT to align systems with business requirements, regulatory and accounting standards, and internal controls.
Project Management & Collaboration (for Consultant/Lead roles): Participate in implementation and enhancement projects, lead design sessions and configuration decisions, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, manage scope and client expectations, contribute to project planning and delivery, mentor junior team members.
Qualifications
Minimum 9 years experience as a Workday/ERP financial consultant.
Strong understanding of financial processes, accounting principles and financial management practices.
Proven ability to manage and optimize ERP systems, specifically Workday.
Workday Financials certification(s) desirable.
Proficiency in financial data analysis and ability to generate meaningful insights.
Excellent problem‑solving skills, attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines and work effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
Experience with Agile or Waterfall project methodologies.
Knowledge of Workday Security is a plus.
