Maintenance Engineer

Days - 8.30-5pm

£30,000 - £38,000

On behalf of a well-established manufacturing business, we are currently recruiting for a hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a busy and supportive engineering team.

Reporting into the Maintenance Manager, this role will suit an experienced engineer with a strong mechanical background and solid workshop capability. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting both planned and reactive maintenance across the production facility, as well as carrying out machining and fabrication work as required.


The Role

Key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Carrying out preventative and reactive mechanical maintenance on production machinery and plant equipment

  • Operating workshop machinery including lathes, milling machines, and grinders

  • Fault finding, repairing, and maintaining pneumatic systems such as valves, actuators, and compressors

  • Manufacturing, modifying, and repairing mechanical components using general engineering workshop tools

  • Completing maintenance documentation and reporting issues to the Maintenance Manager

  • Assisting with the installation, commissioning, and improvement of new machinery and equipment

  • Ensuring strict adherence to health & safety procedures and safe systems of work

  • Working closely with engineering and production teams to improve equipment reliability and uptime

  • Contributing to continuous improvement and lean maintenance initiatives


About You

To be considered, candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance role within a manufacturing or engineering environment

  • Strong workshop skills, including experience with lathes, milling machines, and general machining equipment

  • Good working knowledge of pneumatic systems and associated maintenance activities

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation

  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, or a time-served apprenticeship

  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with strong attention to detail

  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team


Desirable Experience
  • Welding and fabrication skills

  • Forklift and/or MEWP certification

  • Experience using preventative maintenance systems or CMMS software
