Chartered Engineer – Surface and Highways Structures

Ceto Talent is recruiting for a Chartered Engineer to join a Surface and Highways Structures team based across the London network. This is a principal contracts-focused role requiring a strong background in independent examination and Works Examiner activity. We are specifically looking for candidates with a contracting background rather than a design focus. The role involves frequent site visits — 3 to 4 times per week at the outset — across 6 live sites requiring inspection and sign-off.
Essential Requirements
* Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional institution.
* Proven principal contracting background — candidates with a predominantly design-focused background will not be suitable for this role.
* Extensive experience acting as a Works Examiner, with the ability to operate fully independently in this capacity.
* Experience with CG300 works examination processes.
* Demonstrated experience undertaking independent technical assurance and examination of civil engineering works on highways and structures projects.
* Experience reviewing Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) against contract specification.
* Comfortable with frequent site attendance — 3 to 4 visits per week across multiple live sites, particularly at the commencement of the role.
* Knowledge of legislation, technical standards, and industry best practice relevant to engineering delivery.
* Valid CSCS card.
* Valid UK driving licence.
Key Responsibilities
As Chartered Engineer, you will provide independent technical assurance and examination of works across a portfolio of live highways and structures sites in London. You will carry out Works Examiner duties fully independently, conducting site inspections and sign-offs across multiple active projects. You will ensure all works are delivered in compliance with the approved design and relevant standards, review and examine ITPs against contract specifications, and provide technical oversight and guidance to site teams. Frequent site attendance is required, particularly in the early stages of the engagement as the team manages 6 live sites simultaneously.

Rate: £527.55 per day (umbrella)
Location: London (sites across the TfL network)
Site Visits: 3–4 days per week across 6 live sites, particularly at commencement
