Job Description

Mid-Level Competition Lawyer (2–5 PQE) – Brussels

A leading international law firm is seeking to recruit a talented Competition Associate (2–5 PQE) to join its highly regarded Brussels practice. The team is widely recognised for its role in shaping EU competition law through involvement in complex, high-profile matters before the European Commission and EU Courts, as well as coordinating multi-jurisdictional strategies for global clients.

This position offers the opportunity to work on a broad spectrum of competition law matters, with a strong emphasis on EU merger control, cartel investigations, and behavioural advisory work. The successful candidate will be closely involved in all stages of merger review processes, including Phase I clearances and in-depth Phase II investigations, often coordinating filings across multiple jurisdictions. The role also includes advising on cartel matters, including leniency applications, responding to regulatory inquiries, and supporting clients through sensitive investigative processes such as dawn raids.

In addition, the practice is actively engaged in advising on abuse of dominance issues, complex vertical arrangements, and evolving areas such as digital markets regulation and foreign direct investment screening. Associates are regularly involved in developing compliance programmes, conducting internal audits, and advising on strategic risk management in highly regulated sectors including technology, energy, life sciences, and financial services.

The team operates within a fully integrated international platform, offering consistent exposure to cross-border matters and collaboration with colleagues across key global offices. Associates benefit from direct client interaction at an early stage, working with multinational corporates, private equity sponsors, and financial institutions on matters that are often commercially critical and politically sensitive. The environment is both rigorous and supportive, with a strong emphasis on mentorship, professional development, and long-term career progression.

Candidate Profile

  • 2–5 years’ post-qualification experience in EU competition law
  • Experience gained at a recognised law firm, competition authority, or similarly relevant environment
  • Strong academic background
  • Demonstrated experience in merger control and/or cartel investigations
  • Excellent analytical, drafting, and communication skills
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, international environment
  • Fluency in English is essential; additional European languages are advantageous
  • Qualification in a UK or EU jurisdiction preferred

Offering

  • Exposure to high-profile, cross-border competition matters at the forefront of EU antitrust enforcement
  • Direct client engagement and early responsibility on complex mandates
  • Collaboration with leading practitioners across an integrated global platform
  • Structured training, mentorship, and clear career progression
  • Competitive remuneration package at the top end of the Brussels market
  • Comprehensive benefits package and supportive working environment

This role presents a compelling opportunity for an ambitious associate seeking to further develop their expertise within a market-leading practice at the forefront of EU competition law.
