Consultant Psychiatrist - Central Manchester - Liaison

Overview

The post holder will work alongside the existing consultant liaison psychiatrists and be expected to predominantly assess and manage adults of working age, including perinatal patients presenting with mental health problems. The post holder may also be required to assess later life patients, such as those with delirium and/or dementia.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Deliver clinical duties and provide medical leadership to the team, particularly for adults of working age.
  • Participate in clinical programmed activity sessions, typically seeing 1-3 liaison cases per session and supervising other team members.
  • Involve in Mental Health Act assessments and Section 136 cases (estimated 2-3 per week).
  • Assess complex cases to establish diagnosis and treatment plans.
  • Maintain close liaison with Manchester Royal Infirmary general medical and surgical ward colleagues and ED staff to improve patient care.
