Controls Engineer – Manufacturing

Are you an experienced Controls Engineer looking to take the next step in your career within a fast-paced, highly automated manufacturing environment? We are working with a well-established, growing business that is seeking a talented Controls Engineer to join its engineering team.


This role is conveniently located within easy commuting distance of Hull, Goole, Scunthorpe, and Grimsby, making it an excellent opportunity for a skilled Controls Engineer across the region.


The Role

As a Controls Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining, improving, and supporting automated production systems. You’ll be instrumental in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and driving continuous improvement across the site.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support automated production equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, and control panels.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and control system faults to minimise disruption.
  • Modify and enhance PLC and HMI programmes to improve performance and reliability.
  • Support commissioning of new machinery and control systems.
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineers and production teams to identify root causes of issues.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on electrical systems.
  • Assist with control system upgrades and automation projects.
  • Ensure compliance with UK electrical standards and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including schematics and maintenance records.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to colleagues on-site.

Skills & Experience


Essential:

  • HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent in Electrical or Control Engineering
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, and variable speed drives
  • Proven electrical fault-finding skills on automated machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Good understanding of industrial safety standards
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset


Desirable:

  • Experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley or Mitsubishi PLCs
  • Knowledge of industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus)
  • Experience with SCADA systems
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
  • Exposure to robotics or advanced automation
