Senior Configuration Engineer

Location: West Yorkshire
Sector: UK Defence Engineering
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

A well-established UK defence engineering organisation is seeking a Senior Configuration Engineer to take ownership of configuration management across complex engineering programmes. This role offers long-term responsibility for ensuring configuration discipline, data integrity, and effective change control across product, test, and software design environments.

The position focuses on day-to-day use, governance, and continuous improvement of configuration management tools and processes, rather than system implementation or development.

The Role

You will act as the configuration management Subject Matter Expert, supporting engineering teams to ensure consistent, compliant, and efficient use of configuration management systems. Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Assembly functions, you will help safeguard engineering data and enable successful programme delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and oversee configuration management activities across engineering programmes

  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and security constraints

  • Act as the primary point of contact for configuration management guidance and best practice

  • Support engineers with change control, BOM management, and configuration queries

  • Promote consistent use of configuration workflows and data governance standards

  • Deliver training and refresher sessions to engineering and cross-functional teams

  • Maintain clear user guidance and configuration work instructions

  • Monitor configuration data quality and process adherence

  • Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities

  • Support effective use of configuration tools alongside CAD, analysis, ERP, and office systems

About You
  • Experience using Teamcenter or a comparable PLM / configuration management system

  • Strong understanding of configuration management principles and lifecycle control

  • Background in an engineering or manufacturing environment

  • Confident working with and influencing engineers at all levels

  • Analytical, methodical approach to problem solving

  • Comfortable delivering training and providing practical support

  • Engineering or technical degree desirable
