As an EC&I Designer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You will support the team in providing their design capability, where the activities are generally focused on the provision of new, or modification to electrical systems on Naval Platforms.
Day-to-day, you will be involved in design projects applying process, domain knowledge and experience to develop and produce range of design outputs and deliverables within discipline, across the entire Global Engineering Product Lifecycle, or GEPL, (Start-Up, Concept, Development, Production, Commissioning & Acceptance, In-Service and Retirement), including design solutions, of varying complexity, to the required standards, under limited technical supervision.
Key roles and Responsibilities include:
At this level, an EC&I Designer is able to execute a range of design activities, appropriate to role, including:
Review and interpret technical information and requirements.
Understand, and create technical drawings, specifications, and reports.
Appropriate to discipline, produce CAD models and engineering designs for parts, components, systems, and structures in line with recognised standards and to the required time, cost, and quality requirements.
Develop innovative design solutions with robust engineering substantiation.
Undertake routine calculations (relevant to design specialisation).
Use appropriate tools and techniques (including engineering judgement) to make informed design decisions.
Provide solutions to manufacturing and installation issues by assisting in the resolution of technical and production queries.
Liaise with design and engineering colleagues (and other appropriate stakeholders) across the GEPL to ensure coordination and functionality of design.
Interface with customers and supply chain on design issues and assist with procurement specifications.
Apply configuration management (including change control) processes to design outputs as well as legacy "datum-pack" technical information.
Prepare, produce, and maintain project technical information as required by the GEPL.
Support the application of technical governance through rigorous (self) checking of design outputs as well as assist in the preparation and presentation of relevant (design) assurance evidence at design reviews.
Assist more senior designers in a range of activities including the production of estimates, as well as the maintenance, and improvement in quality standards of outputs.
Fulfil Design Lead responsibilities as assigned for single discipline, low risk projects.
Provide guidance to less experienced team members to support both their effective working, and their professional development.
To undertake this role, you need to:
Have undertaken an engineering or design apprenticeship in a relevant discipline or possess transferable skills and experience in a marine/defence/industry design environment.
Possess a good understanding of electrical design principles and practices.
Ability to interpret and produce structural drawings and models.
Be a team player, developing good working relationships within the wider technical community including other design, safety, and engineering teams as well as Project, System and Platform Technical Authorities.Qualifications
Ideally, the candidate will be:
Certificate (or BTEC Level 3) qualified in a relevant engineering subject or hold a suitable qualification with demonstrable experience in a relevant field.
