Job Title: Senior Estates Engineer (Mechanical) Location: Birmingham
Salary - £45,000 + bonuses
Hours - Monday/Friday 8-4. 37.5 hours a week.
About the Role
We are recruiting for an experienced engineering professional to support the delivery of a high-quality estates and maintenance service across a large healthcare contract in Birmingham.
This role will support the Technical Services Manager in overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring compliance, managing teams, and maintaining critical building services. You will work across multiple sites and play a key role in ensuring facilities remain safe, efficient, and fully operational.
Key Responsibilities
* Support and deputise for the Technical Services Manager
* Plan and schedule PPM activities in line with statutory requirements and HTMs
* Oversee reactive and planned maintenance across building services
* Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations and statutory legislation
* Manage subcontractors and suppliers to meet service level agreements
* Monitor response times, repair quality, and overall performance
* Assist with budget control, stock management, and financial processes
* Carry out audits and quality checks on completed work
* Ensure safe systems of work and compliance across all activities
* Attend meetings with internal teams and stakeholders
* Assist with condition surveys and lifecycle planning
Team Leadership
* Supervise and manage engineering staff on a day-to-day basis
* Conduct appraisals, performance reviews, and return-to-work interviews
* Manage rota planning, attendance, and resource allocation
* Deliver training sessions and toolbox talks
* Liaise with other departments and managers to ensure service delivery
* Supervise contractors, including RAMS review and site inspections
Technical Duties
* Support maintenance across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fabric systems
* Assist in managing energy efficiency and plant performance
* Maintain accurate records using CAFM systems
* Carry out inspections, audits, and compliance checks
* Support lifecycle and minor works project delivery
* Provide administrative cover when required
Requirements
Essential:
* City & Guilds or equivalent in an engineering discipline
* Experience within a maintenance or estates environment
* Strong organisational and communication skills
* IT literate (Microsoft Office and CAFM systems)
* Ability to manage teams and work independently
