Freelance Quantity Surveyor – Civils Works (Major UK DNO Framework)
Location: Wakefield (Hybrid Working Available)
Engagement: Long-Term and Short-Term Contracts Available
Client: Major UK Distribution Network Operator (DNO)
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support delivery of civils works for a major UK DNO, including foundations, access roads, drainage, and earthworks for substations and associated network infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities

Manage assigned civils projects under NEC contracts, ensuring compliance and commercial governance.

Administer compensation events, variations, and change control procedures.
*
Prepare, submit, and agree interim valuations and final accounts.
*
Provide commercial advice to project and operational teams.
*
Maintain accurate and auditable commercial records.
Cost Control & Reporting
*
Produce cost forecasts and cost-to-complete reports for civils works.
*
Monitor budgets and track commercial performance.
*
Identify and escalate commercial risks and opportunities.
*
Prepare structured reports for senior stakeholders and client representatives.
Supply Chain & Stakeholder Engagement
*
Assess and manage subcontractor applications and performance.
*
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and planners to align objectives.
*
Interface with client representatives on civils commercial matters.
Candidate Profile
Essential: Quantity surveying experience in civils works (foundations, access roads, drainage, earthworks), NEC contract knowledge, cost management and valuation expertise.
Desirable: RICS/CIOB/ICES accreditation, DNO or utility civils experience, understanding of infrastructure civils cost structures.
