Functional Skills Tutor (16–25) – Newham

1:1 Tuition | Outreach & Community-Based | PAYE

New Chapter Tuition is seeking a Functional Skills Tutor to provide 1:1 English and Maths tuition to learners aged 16–25 in Newham.

This role involves supporting young people working towards Entry Level to Level 2 Functional Skills, helping them build confidence, develop core skills, and progress into education, employment, or training.

The Role

You will work with learners who may have SEN, SEMH needs, anxiety, or gaps in learning, often following periods of disengagement from education. Tuition will be delivered in community-based settings using a supportive, learner-centred approach.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 Functional Skills English and Maths tuition
• Support learners aged 16–25 from Entry Level to Level 2
• Adapt teaching to individual learning needs and emotional wellbeing
• Encourage confidence, independence, and engagement
• Track learner progress and contribute to positive learning outcomes

Requirements

• Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths
• Experience working with young people or young adults (16–25)
• Knowledge of Entry Level–Level 2 Functional Skills
• Calm, patient, and supportive teaching style
• Ability to work independently in outreach settings
• Right to work in the UK
