Head of Service - Building Control MB2 (£71,274 £81,588, includes 20% market supplement). This role is eligible for an Essential Car User allowance of up to £963 per annum. 37 hours, Full‑Time | Permanent | Hybrid: Stopford House and homeworking Your Role As the Head of Building Control, you will lead a team of building inspectors tackling diverse projects from historic buildings to modern developments. You will manage service budgets and strategies, enhancing efficiency and innovation through excellent communication skills. You will also be commercially driven, identifying opportunities to generate additional income and support the service’s financial sustainability. The ideal candidate will bring managerial experience, lead the BSR audit process, and grow a competent high‑performing team that adheres to council policies, supported by continual professional development and mentoring. About You We are looking for a BSR‑registered Minimum Class 2A‑F Building Inspector with extensive experience in Building Control and a proven track record of leading a Building Control team in the public or private sector. You should possess strong technical knowledge of building regulations, fire safety, and emerging construction technologies. You will have excellent stakeholder‑management skills, capable of working effectively with elected members, developers, and residents. You thrive in a fast‑paced environment and have a deep commitment to public service and safety. You possess a strategic problem‑solving mindset that drives service improvements and financial sustainability, and you are commercially driven with an eye for spotting opportunities to grow fee income and maximise cost recovery. A full UK driving licence is necessary for travel to different locations within the borough of Stockport. You possess IT skills necessary to handle the electronic processing of plans, capture of site reports and documents to bespoke systems, and email communication with stakeholders.
