Job Description
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health and Safety Manager to lead and develop a high-performing H&S function.
The role supports UK and international offices, providing strategic, practical and commercially focused Health & Safety leadership.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining effective Health & Safety management systems, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and best practice. Working closely with Facilities, HR, Responsible Business and senior stakeholders, you will drive consistency, continuous improvement and a strong safety culture across the organisation.
This is a full-time role with agile and flexible working.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, manage and develop Health & Safety Advisors, providing coaching and professional support
Provide strategic and commercially focused advice on all Health and Safety matters
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and requirements, including fire safety, first aid, PAT testing and mandatory training
Work closely with Office Managers across UK and international locations to ensure local guidelines are followed and, where possible, that policies and processes are aligned globally
Carry out internal audits and ensure Health & Safety documentation and systems remain fit for purpose
Produce monthly and annual reports for senior management and operational leadership
Liaise with regulatory authorities to maintain compliance with statutory obligations
Develop, implement and maintain Health & Safety policies, procedures and bespoke documentation as required
Conduct UK office inspections and ensure contractors comply with Health & Safety policies and standards
Support and maintain ISO 14001 requirements, including document control, data collection, performance monitoring and compliance across UK offices, with scope to extend internationally
Design and implement an ISO 45001-ready Health & Safety management system across UK and international offices, with a view to future certification
Oversee Health & Safety training and assessment programmes for employees and contractors, including both in-person and online delivery
Maintain and update toolbox talks and introduce new training content where required
Manage training and assessments covering areas such as fire safety, first aid, COSHH, asbestos awareness, legionella, risk assessments, working at height, slips/trips/falls, travel safety and homeworking
Improve permit-to-work and visitor management processes, including PASMA-related activities
Review and update risk assessments, safe systems of work and RAMS for routine activities undertaken by staff and contractors
Maintain records relating to landlord requirements, access protocols and permit-to-work systems across all locations
Ensure organisational Health & Safety registers are current, including COSHH, accident/incident reporting, near-misses and RIDDOR records, covering both staff and third-party contractors
Monitor legal developments in Health & Safety and maintain a legal compliance tracker
Act as Lead Incident Control Officer
Undertake the role of First Aider and Lead Fire Warden
Work with HR, Diversity & and related teams to support reasonable adjustments and workplace accessibility
Advise on and coordinate accessibility improvements following audits and recommendations
Complete maternity and return-to-work risk assessments
Manage and monitor the Health & Safety budget, including invoice approval
Skills & Experience
Proven experience managing Health & Safety across multiple UK locations; international experience desirable
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent)
Experience implementing or preparing organisations for ISO 45001
