The Health & Safety Manager will lead and manage the company’s health, safety, environmental and compliance systems across all electrical contracting activities, with a specific focus on LV–33kV electricity infrastructure works delivered under ICP frameworks.
The role is responsible for ensuring the organisation maintains the highest safety standards while delivering electrical network projects including cable laying, jointing, substations and associated civil works, ensuring full compliance with NERS accreditation requirements and Distribution Network Operator (DNO) standards.
The successful candidate will ensure that the company maintains its NERS (National Electricity Registration Scheme) accreditation, which is required for ICPs to carry out contestable electrical connection works on UK electricity networks.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Leadership
* Develop, implement and maintain the company’s Health & Safety strategy across all LV–33kV electrical network projects. Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation including:
* Health and Safety at Work Act
* Electricity at Work Regulations
* Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
* HSG85, GS6 and other electrical safety guidance.
* Promote a positive safety culture across operational teams, subcontractors and supply chain partners.
* Provide leadership and support to operational teams delivering electrical infrastructure projects.
NERS Accreditation & Compliance
* Maintain and manage the company’s NERS accreditation and scope of works.
* Ensure the business remains compliant with all LRQA NERS audit requirements.
* Prepare and manage documentation for NERS surveillance and reaccreditation audits.
* Ensure operational procedures align with DNO specifications, industry standards and NERS requirements.
Site Safety Management
* Conduct site inspections and safety audits across active projects.
* Ensure safe delivery of works including:
* LV and HV cable installation and jointing
* Substation installation
* Energisation activities
* Civil works associated with electrical infrastructure.
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in Health & Safety management within electrical utilities or HV power infrastructure.
* Strong knowledge of LV–33kV electrical distribution systems.
* Experience working within an Independent Connection Provider (ICP) or utility contractor environment.
* Experience managing NERS accreditation and audit processes.
* NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent H&S qualification.
* Strong understanding of electrical and construction safety regulations.
* Experience working with DNO or IDNO network standards.
* Experience supporting NERS or other utility scheme audits.
* Membership of IOSH or IIRSM.
* Knowledge of HV switching procedures and electrical operational safety

£50,000 - £70,000 /annum
