Highways Clerk of Works (Capital Project Delivery)

We are recruiting an experienced Highways Clerk of Works to support the delivery of a major Highways Capital Programme. This is a hands‑on, site‑based role focused exclusively on highways works.

Key Responsibilities

The role will involve site supervision and inspection across a range of highways schemes, including:

Major cycle infrastructure projects
Carriageway and footway resurfacing
Traffic management and temporary traffic arrangements
Ensuring compliance with highways legislation, standards, and specifications
Supervision and quality control of highway construction works
Monitoring contractor performance and ensuring works are delivered safely and to programme

Candidate Requirements

Proven experience working within a highways environment
Background in civil engineering / highways engineering or a related discipline
Strong site supervision or Clerk of Works experience on highways projects
Good working knowledge of highways regulations and traffic management requirements
Confident liaising with contractors and project teams on site

Location & Working Pattern

The role is predominantly site‑based, requiring regular travel to active construction sites for most of the working week
Candidates must be comfortable undertaking frequent site inspections
Due to occasional emergency works, candidates living reasonably close to the project area would be advantageous
