Location: Twickenham, hybrid working once training completed (2-3 days remote)

Hourly rate £20.03 PAYE / £26.08 UMB Per Hour

Contract Length: 3-month contract (possibility of extension)

Working Pattern: Full Time, Monday - Friday, 36 hours

We're looking for a Homeless Prevention Early Intervention Officer to join our Homeless Prevention & Solutions Service in Richmond. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong customer service experience, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping people navigate challenging housing situations.

About the Role

In this vital frontline role, you will:

Act as the first point of contact for residents at risk of homelessness.
Carry out initial enquiries, gather key information, and assess risk factors.
Provide clear, practical advice on housing rights, tenancy issues, welfare benefits, income maximisation, debt, and housing options.
Work proactively to prevent homelessness, including:
Liaising with landlords, family members, and housing providers
Supporting residents with rent arrears
Delivering early interventions for victims of domestic abuse
Conducting home visits where needed
Allocate cases to Homeless Prevention and Solutions Officers when homelessness within 56 days is identified.
Maintain accurate case records, data, and documentation to support service delivery and statutory reporting.
Support the wider team through collaborative working, customer service excellence, and knowledge sharing.This role contributes directly to helping residents stay safe, secure, and supported-often at critical points in their lives.

About You

We're looking for someone who can bring empathy, professionalism, and problem‑solving skills to every interaction. You will have:

Essential experience and skills

Experience in a customer service, housing, or lettings environment
Confidence in carrying out interviews, investigations, and negotiations
Strong record‑keeping skills, including digital record systems
Ability to have honest, sensitive conversations about housing options
Excellent interpersonal, listening, and negotiation skills
Ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
Creative thinking to identify early intervention solutionsDesirable

Knowledge of homelessness legislation and housing-related policy
Understanding of local authority services and referral pathways
Experience working as a triage officer (desirable)
