M&E Shift Maintenance Engineer\n\nLocation: Canary Wharf, London\nShift Pattern: 4 Days On / 4 Days Off – 08:00–20:00\nSalary: £50,000 per annum\nEmployment Type: Temp to Perm\nEnvironment: Large commercial office floor, associated plant rooms & loading bay\n\nRole Overview\n\nWe are seeking an experienced M&E Shift Maintenance Engineer to join a prestigious commercial building in Canary Wharf. The role involves maintaining one large tenanted floor along with supporting plant and back-of-house areas. You will carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), statutory compliance checks, reactive repairs, and a variety of fabric and basic building maintenance tasks.\n\nThe ideal candidate is a proactive, client‑facing engineer who is presentable, reliable, professional, and comfortable working within an occupied commercial office environment.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nMechanical & Electrical Maintenance\n\nCarry out planned and reactive maintenance across M&E systems.\nDiagnose faults and take corrective action to restore services.\nComplete maintenance logs, reports, and compliance documentation.\nUndertake small repairs and adjustments to ensure optimal building performance.\n\nFabric & General Building Maintenance\n\nBasic carpentry repairs (e.g., door adjustments, ironmongery fixes).\nPainting, decorating, minor patch repairs.\nTiling, sealing, and other fabric tasks as required.\nMaintaining the loading bay area and general building appearance standards.\n\nStatutory Compliance & PPM Tasks\n\nTypical checks expected within a commercial London building include:\n\nFire alarm testing & weekly L5 checks\nEmergency lighting monthly & annual testing\nWater hygiene tasks:\n\nTemperature monitoring\nDead-leg removal checks\nTMV servicing\nLegionella compliance logs\n\nAHU & FCU filter checks and cleaning\nHVAC system inspections\nGenerator weekly checks\nSprinkler system visual inspections\nDampers and smoke control system routine checks\nMonthly building checks across plant rooms and life-safety systems\nElectrical compliance tasks (minor works, emergency light flick tests)\n\nClient-Facing Responsibilities\n\nAct as the primary point of contact for the tenant floor.\nProvide excellent customer service and communicate clearly with building users.\nMaintain professionalism and ensure minimal disruption during maintenance activities.\n\nEquipment Typically Maintained\n\nCandidates should be competent working with typical commercial building engineering systems, including:\n\nMechanical Systems\n\nAir Handling Units (AHUs)\nFan Coil Units (FCUs)\nChilled water systems\nHot water systems, calorifiers & plate heat exchangers\nPumps, pressurisation units, expansion vessels\nVariable Air Volume (VAV) boxes\nDuctwork components & fire dampers\nHVAC control systems (BMS)\n\nElectrical Systems\n\nLighting & emergency lighting\nSmall power distribution & sockets\nDistribution boards & fuseboards\nUPS systems (basic checks)\nGenerators (weekly runs & records)\nMotors, controls & isolators\nBMS interaction and alarm monitoring\n\nOther Equipment\n\nDoor access systems\nCCTV (basic resets)\nLoading bay equipment & shutter doors\nLifts (assisting with entrapment protocol – NOT repair)\n\nQualifications & Experience\n\nLevel 3 or NVQ in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (essential).\n18th Edition (desirable if electrically biased).\nPrevious experience in a commercial building services role.\nStrong all-round building maintenance skills including fabric repairs.\nAbility to work independently during long shifts.\nGood communication and customer service skills.\nMust be reliable, proactive, and well‑presented.\n\nWhat We’re Looking For\n\nA genuine all-rounder comfortable handling M&E and fabric tasks.\nA confident engineer able to represent the company professionally.\nSomeone who can maintain a high standard of compliance and building presentation.\nShift-based reliability: punctual, consistent, and responsible
