Job Title: Mechanical Supervisor\nLocation: Birmingham\nContract: Self-Employed – 8 Months\nStart Date: Start of March\nRate: £240 – £275 per shift (DOE)\nHours: Out-of-Hours (OOH)\nRequirement: Enhanced DBS (essential) Experience in Mechanical Supervisor (Essential)\n\nMechanical Supervisor Role\n\nWe are seeking an experienced Mechanical Supervisor to lead retrofit works across school projects in Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity for a hands-on, client-facing professional who thrives on responsibility, autonomy, and delivering high-quality mechanical works in live environments.\n\nWorking on education facilities, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and upgrading critical building services systems — primarily within plant rooms and heating systems — ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard.\n\nIf you’re a seasoned professional with a plumbing, pipefitting, or HVAC background and are ready to take ownership on site, this role offers strong earning potential and long-term stability.\n\nThe Mechanical Supervisor\n\nAs Mechanical Supervisor, you will:\n\n * \n\n Supervise mechanical retrofit works within school environments\n\n * \n\n Oversee maintenance, plant room upgrades, heating system repairs, PPMs and reactive works\n\n * \n\n Manage and direct a team of engineers on site\n\n * \n\n Act as the main client-facing representative\n\n * \n\n Make independent decisions when required\n\n * \n\n Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently and to specification\n\n * \n\n Read and interpret designs and instruct the team accordingly\n\n * \n\n Complete general documentation and maintain clear site records\n\n * \n\n Liaise with the visiting Project Manager (weekly or bi-weekly site visits)\n\nThis is an out-of-hours role, ensuring works are completed with minimal disruption to school operations.\n\nRequirements for the Mechanical Supervisor\n\nWe’re looking for someone who is:\n\n * \n\n Highly experienced in mechanical building services\n\n * \n\n From a strong plumbing/pipefitting background (decades of experience welcomed) or From an HVAC background with solid knowledge of plumbing and pipefitting\n\n * \n\n Confident reading drawings and directing engineers\n\n * \n\n IT literate and comfortable with site documentation\n\n * \n\n Friendly, approachable and professional with clients\n\n * \n\n Proactive, solutions-focused and a strong decision maker\n\n * \n\n Comfortable managing engineers and taking ownership on site\n\nYou must hold (or be willing to obtain) an Enhanced DBS due to the nature of the projects
