Payments Product Owner – POS

Role Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Point of Sale (POS) Product Owner to lead the delivery of payment initiatives across our POS product suite.

In this role, you will be responsible for executing the product roadmap for our POS payments platform, ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of in-store payment capabilities, payment processing enhancements, terminal and hardware integrations, and seamless merchant and customer experiences.

Working closely with Product Managers, Development teams, UI/UX, and third-party partners, you will translate product vision into clear, actionable requirements and successful delivery outcomes. You will ensure our payment products remain reliable, scalable, and valuable to both customers and internal stakeholders.

The role reports to the Product Delivery Manager and involves close collaboration with software development teams, operational teams, third-party providers, customers, and key internal stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be confident working across technical and non-technical teams and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Key Accountabilities:

• Own delivery of the POS roadmap by translating product strategy into clear, actionable delivery plans.
• Define and document requirements through detailed user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting business context.
• Produce supporting artefacts such as process flows, wireframes, sequence diagrams, and other documentation to communicate complex requirements clearly.
• Maintain high-quality delivery documentation, ensuring epics, stories, and acceptance criteria are traceable throughout development, testing, and release.
• Act as a consultative partner to stakeholders, using your product knowledge to shape requirements, guide decision-making, and ensure solutions deliver measurable value.
• Collaborate with Architecture, Operations, Risk, and other cross-functional teams to ensure functional, operational, and non-functional requirements are fully understood and delivered.
• Work closely with development teams and third-party partners to present user stories, clarify requirements, and remove delivery blockers.
• Manage and prioritise the product backlog for POS payment initiatives, balancing business priorities, customer needs, and technical dependencies.
• Coordinate cross-functional delivery across engineering, design, analytics, and operational teams to ensure smooth, on-time releases.
• Communicate progress, risks, dependencies, and key decisions to project teams and stakeholders.
• Validate that delivered features meet business requirements and are accurate, reliable, scalable, and user-friendly.
• Support release planning and go-to-market activity to ensure the successful launch of new features and enhancements.
• Capture feedback from customers, internal teams, and group companies, and incorporate this into ongoing backlog refinement and roadmap prioritisation.
• Participate actively in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, stand-ups, demos, and retrospectives.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve the product, recommending new features or enhancements that create measurable value.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Proven experience as a Product Owner within a data-driven, fintech, payments, or software delivery environment.
• Strong experience working with POS terminal devices and in-store payment solutions.
• Solid understanding of end-to-end payment flows, including the roles of gateways, acquirers, processors, and payment terminals.
• Demonstrated ability to write high-quality user stories, define acceptance criteria, manage backlogs, and work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience using wireframing, prototyping, or visualisation tools to communicate requirements.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and organisational skills, with a strong focus on delivery outcomes.
• Experience working with third-party vendors and technology partners to deliver integrated solutions.
• Familiarity with Android-based POS or terminal development environments.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

• Experience working with API-driven products and integrations, including REST and gRPC.
• Understanding of data governance, PCI-DSS, compliance, and regulatory requirements within payments.
• Exposure to Agile delivery methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
