Principal CAD/BIM Technician - Building Structures at WSP in the UK & Ireland

This role involves developing BIM models for the Structures discipline, interfacing with BIM leads in other disciplines to create federated models and perform clash detection, and contributing to a coherent design process that maximises data exchange across multiple software platforms.

What you will do

  • Provide 3D modelling expertise to a variety of multidisciplinary projects in the Building Structures sector
  • Act as project lead on multi-disciplinary jobs and liaise with counterparts in other disciplines
  • Mentor and guide younger members of the team
  • Manage, monitor and check work undertaken by external resources
  • Support the Structures teams in the development of BIM within the business; knowledge of current BIM Level 2 documentation
  • Develop skills and capabilities of design teams to assist project delivery within a BIM compliant environment
  • Upskill BIM knowledge of internal colleagues and external consultants / subcontractors as required
  • Develop and cross-check model information against Employer Information Requirements (EIR), including clash detection and validation of non-graphical information
  • Interface with multi-disciplinary project teams and drive BIM benefits at project level
  • Monitor and advise on clash detection issues
  • Produce high quality models and drawings in both 2D and 3D
  • Demonstrate knowledge of health and safety in project delivery

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate

  • Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience in both 2D and 3D
  • High level of experience with Revit, AutoCAD and Navisworks
  • Experience with Aecosim / ProjectWise would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of BIM360 cloud models
  • Able to manage data in a secure and controlled manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build positive working relationships
  • Experience operating in a BIM Level 2 compliant environment
  • Open to learning new software and processes
  • Ability to coordinate others and manage own workload
  • Minimum HNC/D level education in engineering or a relevant subject; understanding of Building Information Modelling and its benefits to the construction industry; multidisciplinary design approach
  • Excellent working knowledge of building construction and materials; knowledge of Eurocodes
  • Good working knowledge of industry standards such as BS1192, PAS1192, ISO19650 and related documents
  • Able to sign and abide by confidentiality agreements
