Job Description

Wood is currently looking for a Functional Safety Engineer to join our Operations team. This is a hybrid role based out of Aberdeen office.

The Functional Safety Engineer will provide functional safety lifecycle management to ensure project compliance with client and Wood Functional Safety specifications, applicable code requirements, and international standards.

Responsibilities

  1. Serve as the primary contact for functional safety during project definition, development, and execution.
  2. Evaluate risks and support HAZOP / LOPA actions in compliance with process safety management standards.
  3. Develop functional safety management plans, participate in LOPA studies, develop Safety Requirement Specifications, lead Functional Safety Assessments, verify design calculations, and develop or check validation & proof test procedures.
  4. Collaborate with other disciplines to develop deliverables like P&IDs, cause & effect diagrams, alarm & trip schedules, equipment specifications, and SIS logic solver user requirement specifications, ensuring functional safety considerations are integrated.
  5. Ensure alignment with project safety specifications, client standards, and relevant international standards.
  6. Act as the primary functional safety contact for clients, ensuring their satisfaction and requirements are met.
  7. Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), conduct SIS verification and validation reviews according to project standards.
  8. Support project performance by monitoring KPIs, such as cost and schedule performance, and assist in developing project schedules and tracking manhours for safety activities.
  9. Possess an Engineering Degree in Automation or Electrical subjects with industrial experience.
  10. Hold a Functional Safety Certification (CFSP/CFSE, TUV FSE, or ISA84 SIS Expert).
  11. Have expertise with SIL verification tools such as exSILentia.
  12. Have significant experience in EPC/MAC/plant operations, especially in process or automation & control systems within the oil & gas, hydrocarbon, refinery, offshore, or infrastructure sectors.
  13. Ability to prioritize tasks effectively to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  14. Experience in brownfield upgrades/replacements of automation and control systems projects.
  15. Stay updated on industry developments.
  16. Understand the commercial aspects related to projects and operations.
  17. Possess excellent communication skills, with enthusiasm and diplomacy.
  18. Provide technical guidance to engineering design teams for equipment, instrumentation, and SIS configuration modifications.
