About the Role

An established engineering and infrastructure contractor is seeking a Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team supporting a major water and wastewater asset maintenance framework across the North West.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a long-term framework delivering large-scale maintenance and improvement works across a broad portfolio of clean water and wastewater treatment assets. The role offers exposure to a high-volume programme of works within a collaborative, fast-paced and technically interesting environment.

The successful candidate will provide commercial support across a portfolio of projects, helping to ensure works are procured effectively, delivered within budget and managed in line with contractual requirements. You will play a key role in identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities, while supporting the wider commercial team in driving strong project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercially manage your own portfolio of projects from development stage through to final account
  • Support the preparation and issue of accurate, timely and contractually compliant notices and correspondence
  • Maintain registers for variations, delays, extensions of time and claims
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly valuations and applications for payment
  • Produce monthly cost reports, forecasts and contract budget reports
  • Liaise collaboratively with client and employer commercial teams to maximise opportunities and improve project outcomes
  • Support pre-contract tender negotiations and prepare associated reports where required
  • Contribute to value engineering / value management exercises
  • Advise on risk management and participate in commercial risk workshops
  • Prepare, review and complete subcontract documentation
  • Review subcontract tender enquiries and support subcontract procurement
  • Identify, assess and price specification changes / compensation events / variations
  • Manage subcontract packages from order placement through to final account
  • Attend site meetings as required, monitor progress and support best commercial practice
  • Reconcile weekly plant, labour and material costs against budget
  • Monitor cashflow and support timely payment processes

Requirements

  • Previous experience in a Quantity Surveyor or similar commercial role within construction, utilities or infrastructure
  • Experience administering or working under NEC contracts
  • Previous experience in the water sector is highly desirable, though other infrastructure sector backgrounds will also be considered
  • Good understanding of commercial reporting, cost analysis, forecasting and budget control
  • Experience assessing compensation events / variations
  • Understanding of commercial risk management processes for both cost and programme
  • Experience of, or appreciation for, Earned Value Management (EVM)
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and commercial systems

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
  • RICS / CICES accredited degree, or working toward a relevant postgraduate qualification with at least 3 years' relevant experience
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Membership of RICS or CICES, or currently working toward chartership
