Are you passionate about supporting young people who face barriers to learning? Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Pastoral Support Worker to join a specialist Secondary SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) school in the Bolton area. Pupils may present with a range of complex needs, including ADHD, anxiety, trauma-related behaviours, attachment difficulties, oppositional or defiant behaviours, low self-esteem, emotional regulation difficulties, and challenging social circumstances. This is a rewarding opportunity to help students develop resilience, confidence and positive routines.
Key Responsibilities
As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in supporting pupils’ wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement. Responsibilities include:
Providing 1:1 or small-group pastoral support to pupils with SEMH needs
Supporting pupils with behaviour regulation, emotional literacy and positive coping strategies
De-escalating challenging situations using trauma-informed approaches
Building strong, trusting relationships to encourage attendance and participation
Supporting pupils with personal development, social skills and confidence
Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams, SENCOs and external agencies
Monitoring pupil wellbeing and contributing to behaviour plans or support strategies
Supporting transitions, reintegration and daily routines for vulnerable pupils
Helping maintain a safe, structured and nurturing school environment
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you should have:
Experience supporting children or young people with challenging behaviour, SEMH needs, or in youth work/social care/community settings
A calm, resilient and patient approach to behaviour management
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to work full-time, Monday–Friday
A genuine passion for helping young people thrive
Willingness to complete (or already possess) an Enhanced DBS
Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Experience in SEMH, PRUs or alternative provisions is highly desirable but not essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
