Senior Bid / Preconstruction Manager - City of London (Hybrid)
The Company
We are currently collaborating with a financially robust main contractor, generating an annual turnover in excess of £650 million. Operating across London and the South East, they deliver large-scale projects typically valued up to £200 million.
With a heritage spanning nearly 200 years, the business has established itself as a leading contractor across a diverse range of sectors. Their portfolio includes healthcare, education, defence, industrial, retail, sports venues, transport infrastructure, environmental, marine, commercial, residential, and leisure projects. Renowned for their stability, capability, and delivery excellence, they continue to be a trusted partner on some of the region’s most complex and high-profile developments.
The Role
Our client is seeking to appoint a Senior Bid Manager to join their Central London team on a hybrid basis (3 days office / 2 days WFH), with occasional travel across London and the Southeast. This role sits within a division which contributes approximately £200 million to annual turnover and delivers major, high-profile schemes.
This is a true end-to-end bid leadership position, responsible for managing the full bid lifecycle from early opportunity identification through to successful handover to the delivery team. You will typically lead 1–2 bids concurrently, coordinating cross-functional teams to develop high-quality, competitive submissions.
There is a strong client-facing element to the role, including leading mid-tender interviews, so the successful candidate must be confident engaging with clients, understanding their needs, and shaping bid strategies, accordingly, not just managing the process.
This is a high-visibility position with regular board-level interaction, offering excellent long term progression within a well established and growing business.
Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Oversee a portfolio of projects during the pre-construction phase
* Provide guidance and direction to Bid Managers where required
* Define the bid win strategy in collaboration with the Pre-Construction Director and Bid Director
* Develop and manage the bid programme
* Lead and participate in tender progress meetings, both internal and external
* Identify potential risks and opportunities, ensuring they are effectively managed by the team
* Review contract documents in detail, working closely with Commercial and Estimating teams to align on tender strategy
* Ensure tenant and employer requirements (e.g. AFL, URD, FRP) are accurately incorporated into the design
* Conduct research to build a comprehensive understanding of each scheme
* Build and maintain strong client relationships
* Manage key client accounts
* Support business development activities as needed
* Travel across the UK as required
The ideal candidate will hold a degree (or equivalent) in construction or a design-related discipline, with a preferred background in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Project Management.
