Estimator Civils & Utilities (Gas / Oil)

My client aleading Mechanical & Civil Engineering contractor delivering high-quality solutions across the utilities, gas, oil, and pipeline sectors. Due to continued growth, we are now seeking an experienced Estimator (Civils & Utilities) to join our commercial team based at our Head Office in Ilkeston.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and commercially aware Estimator with a proven background in civil engineering and utilities projects, looking to play a key role in securing and delivering major works nationwide.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out detailed take-offs and prepare accurate tender submissions

  • Organise and issue tender enquiries to suppliers and subcontractors

  • Manage and administrate all tender documentation and correspondence

  • Produce accurate, detailed, and competitive estimates within required timescales

  • Price work from first principles, including labour, plant, materials, and subcontractors

  • Support bid submissions and contribute to successful project awards

  • Liaise with internal teams to ensure estimates align with project delivery requirements

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Previous estimating experience within civils, utilities, gas, oil, water, or pipeline projects

  • Strong experience producing tenders, rates, and pricing from first principles

  • Proven track record of successful bidding and securing projects

  • Good understanding of project management processes, terminology, and methodologies

  • Strong IT skills with proficiency in MS Office, including Excel and MS Project

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

  • Full UK Driving Licence

Qualifications & Requirements
  • HNC / Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent (preferred)

  • Previous site-based engineering experience

  • Minimum 5 years estimating experience within relevant sectors

  • Experience pricing a wide variety of civil and utility works

  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple tenders simultaneously

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
