Senior Commercial Manager – Civils Contractor

Location: Remote working with occasional travel to Hemel Hempstead and project sites

Reporting to: Commercial / Operations Director

Overview

A growing civil engineering contractor is seeking a Senior Commercial Manager to provide strategic and operational commercial leadership across the business. This is a senior role responsible for driving commercial performance, managing risk and ensuring profitability across multiple civils and infrastructure projects.

The position is primarily remote, with occasional travel required for meetings, site visits and leadership reviews.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commercial performance across all live projects
  • Oversee contract strategy, negotiations and risk management
  • Support bids, tenders and pricing reviews
  • Manage forecasting, cashflow and cost control
  • Oversee variations, compensation events and claims
  • Produce monthly commercial reports for senior leadership
  • Work closely with operational and delivery teams
  • Mentor and develop commercial staff
  • Maintain strong client relationships

Requirements

  • Proven senior commercial experience within civils or infrastructure
  • Strong knowledge of NEC and JCT contracts
  • Experience managing commercial risk on live projects
  • Confident leadership and negotiation skills
  • Strong financial and reporting capability
  • Comfortable working remotely while engaging effectively with teams
