Senior Consultant – Flood Risk & Hydraulic Modelling\nLocation: Leeds (Hybrid Working)\nSalary: £45,000 - £55,000 DOE\n\nA leading UK environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Flood Risk & Hydraulic Modelling Consultant to join its growing Water Team. They operate across several UK offices and have built a strong reputation for technical excellence, innovation, and client satisfaction.\n\nRecognised as a top-tier provider within the UK environmental and sustainability sector, the organisation regularly contributes to government advisory groups, major planning inquiries, and large-scale development projects.\n\nThe Role\n\nThis consultancy is looking for a Senior Consultant with 4+ years’ experience in hydraulic modelling and Flood Risk Assessment (FRA) preparation.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys technical delivery, problem-solving, and influencing development strategies from early concept stages through to planning and design.\n\nYou will support the delivery of hydraulic models (fluvial and pluvial) and FRAs for a diverse client base, including property, renewable energy, infrastructure, and aviation. Projects span early-stage feasibility through to planning submissions, masterplanning, outline design, and discharge of conditions.\n You will also gain exposure to different consenting regimes, including both Town & Country Planning and Development Consent Orders (DCO).\n\nThe role involves close collaboration with the Water Team and wider specialists, providing opportunities for technical development and cross-disciplinary learning.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nDevelop, refine, and troubleshoot hydraulic models to assess flood risk.\nPrepare Flood Risk Assessments and communicate findings clearly to clients.\nUndertake hydrological assessments for fluvial and direct rainfall models.\nIdentify flood risk constraints and opportunities within development sites.\nLiaise with internal teams, external stakeholders, and the Environment Agency.\nContribute to early strategy development, masterplanning and mitigation design.\nPrepare high-quality technical reports for planning and design stages.Key Skills & Experience\n\nStrong understanding of flood-related planning policy (including NPPF).\nProficient in Flood Modeller Pro and TUFLOW.\nCompetent in hydrology for both fluvial and pluvial modelling applications.\nAbility to interpret modelling outputs and present findings clearly.\nPrior experience preparing FRAs (training available to progress further).What’s on Offer\n\nCompetitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.\nEnhanced pension scheme and private medical insurance.\nGenerous and increasing annual leave entitlement, plus buy/sell options.\nSeason ticket loans, cycle-to-work scheme, life assurance and more.\nExtensive CPD support, training programmes, and professional development pathways.\nFlexible working options and a strong wellbeing programme, including mental health first aiders and an Employee Assistance Programme.\nA collaborative, supportive culture with regular recognition initiatives and social value engagement.Interested in this role or any others relating to Hydrology?
