Senior Data Engineer

Job Description

Senior Data Engineer opportunity with a fast-moving, commercially focused business where data plays a central role in decision-making, planning, and operational efficiency. Please note this is an office-based position in London, 5 days a week.

This is a hands-on role for someone who wants real ownership, broad exposure, and the chance to build systems that are used directly by senior stakeholders. You’ll work across data architecture, automation, modelling, governance, and AI-enabled workflows, helping turn complex business processes into scalable technology.

The ideal candidate is a pragmatic engineer who enjoys solving messy, real-world problems. You’ll be comfortable working independently, challenging existing processes, and translating business needs into reliable technical solutions.

This won’t suit someone looking for a narrow, ticket-led engineering role. It will suit someone ambitious, adaptable, and motivated by impact.

About the role

  • Own core data architecture across ingestion, storage, modelling and usage
  • Build reliable pipelines, workflows and automation across business teams
  • Convert spreadsheet-based models into tested, maintainable Python logic
  • Develop reusable analytical libraries and performance metrics
  • Implement data governance, access controls, lineage and quality standards
  • Build CI/CD processes and monitoring for data workflows
  • Create dashboards and tooling to improve visibility across pipelines
  • Explore AI and agent-based workflows to support internal teams
  • Lead technical projects from scoping through to production
  • Work closely with non-technical stakeholders to solve business problems

About you

  • Strong Python skills and experience building production-grade data systems
  • Confident with modern data warehouses and transformation tools
  • Experience with workflow orchestration, automation and CI/CD
  • Able to turn ambiguous business problems into practical solutions
  • Comfortable working directly with senior, non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong critical thinking and commercial awareness
  • Independent, proactive and delivery-focused
  • Happy in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift
  • Likely to have worked in a smaller or high-ownership team
  • Looking for scope, responsibility and progression

On offer

  • Base of £75k - £80k + bonus
  • Senior, high-impact role with broad business exposure
  • Ownership of important data and automation projects
  • Opportunity to shape how technology supports decision-making
  • Fast-moving environment with direct access to senior stakeholders
  • London-based, office-led working culture
