Job Description
I'm looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead the successful delivery of high-value capital projects within the UK water industry. The role will focus on the end-to-end management of complex infrastructure schemes across clean water and wastewater assets, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory and framework requirements.\n\nThe successful candidate must have demonstrable experience operating within UK water frameworks including AMP5, AMP6, AMP7, and AMP8, and be highly proficient in administering and managing contracts under NEC3, NEC4, and JCT forms.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nProject Leadership & Delivery\n\nLead the delivery of high-value capital projects (£10m-£100m+) within regulated water utility environments.\n\nManage projects through full life-cycle: feasibility, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.\n\nEnsure alignment with AMP regulatory cycles and client strategic objectives.\n\nDevelop and manage detailed project execution plans.\n\nCommercial & Contract Management\n\nAdminister and manage contracts under NEC3, NEC4, and JCT conditions.\n\nOversee compensation events, early warning notices, change control, and risk reduction meetings.\n\nDrive commercial performance, cost forecasting, and financial reporting.\n\nManage subcontractor and supply chain performance.\n\nStakeholder & Client Management\n\nAct as the primary interface with water utility clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders.\n\nBuild and maintain strong relationships with framework partners.\n\nLead governance reporting in line with AMP framework requirements.\n\nRisk & Compliance\n\nEnsure compliance with CDM Regulations and health & safety legislation.\n\nProactively identify, manage, and mitigate project risks.\n\nMaintain strict adherence to quality, environmental, and regulatory standards.\n\nTeam & Programme Leadership\n\nLead multi-disciplinary project teams including engineering, commercial, planning, and site teams.\n\nMentor and support junior project managers and engineers.\n\nContribute to programme-level coordination across AMP portfolios.\n\nEssential Requirements\n\nSignificant experience delivering capital projects within the UK water industry.\n\nDirect experience working within AMP5, AMP6, AMP7, and/or AMP8 frameworks.\n\nStrong working knowledge of NEC3, NEC4, and JCT contract forms.\n\nProven track record of delivering high-value infrastructure projects successfully.\n\nStrong commercial acumen and financial management capability.\n\nExcellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.\n\nExperience managing multidisciplinary teams.\n\nDesirable Qualifications\n\nDegree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.\n\nChartered status (e.g., CEng, MAPM, MRICS) or working toward.\n\nAPM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent.\n\nPRINCE2 Practitioner (desirable but not essential).\n\nKey Competencies\n\nStrategic thinking and leadership\n\nCommercial awareness\n\nContractual expertise\n\nRisk management\n\nNegotiation and influencing skills\n\nProgramme and portfolio awareness\n\nRegulatory knowledge within the water sector\n\nWhat We Offer\n\nOpportunity to lead major infrastructure projects within AMP8 and future regulatory cycles.\n\nCompetitive salary and benefits package.\n\nProfessional development and chartership support.\n\nLong-term framework stability within the UK water sector.\n\nThe role is based in Reading and offers hybrid working of 2-3x days per week onsite.\n\nThe salary banding is £60,000 to £85,000 DOE and offers a great benefits package too
