Description
We are looking for an experienced Transport Manager to set the tone and pace for delivering a safe, compliant and efficient transport operation.
This is a hands-on operational leadership role with responsibility for a transport/site operations team. You will play a key role in maintaining high standards across safety, compliance, performance, housekeeping and people management, while fostering a strong safety-led culture on site.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the safe and legally compliant operation of all site transport activities Ensure compliance with legislation, road traffic, driver hours, tachograph Manage daily transport planning including routes, schedules and load movements Oversee vehicle checks, defect reporting, servicing and MOT compliance Monitor driver performance, hours and attendance, addressing risks and trends Act as site lead for transport audits, inspections and corrective actionsOperations
Oversee all yard activity to ensure safe, efficient movement, processing and storage of materials Directly manage the team leader , setting clear priorities and performance expectations Ensure traffic management plans, segregation, stock control and housekeeping standards are maintained Monitor throughput, capacity and plant usage to minimise congestion, downtime and riskPeople Management & Leadership
Manage attendance, conduct, capability and performance in line with company procedures Ensure all staff receive appropriate training, inductions and safety briefings Carry out return-to-work meetings, investigations and corrective coaching where required Promote collaboration and teamwork across transport and yard operationsHealth, Safety & Continuous Improvement
Champion a safety-first culture across all activities Lead incident, near-miss reporting and corrective actions Deliver toolbox talks and reinforce site rules and behavioural standards Monitor KPIs and drive operational improvements in safety, productivity and efficiency Support site audits, customer visits and internal compliance reviews
Profile
We are looking for:
Proven experience in a transport or operational management role Background in waste, recycling, logistics, aggregates or heavy industry Experience managing mixed operational teams, including driversQualifications
Full UK driving licence - essential CPC Transport Manager qualification - highly desirable IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent) - desirableSkills & Behaviours
Strong working knowledge of transport legislation and operational compliance Practical understanding of yard operations and traffic management Confident, hands-on people manager Organised, decisive and calm under pressure Safety-led, detail-focused and accountable Clear communicator with a visible leadership styleJob Offer
