Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Transport Planner (Container Operations) with a strong background in containerised road transport and Port/Rail Terminal coordination. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring efficient, compliant, and cost-effective container movements while delivering exceptional customer service and operational performance.\n\nThis is an excellent opportunity for a logistics professional with proven experience in container transport planning, VBS systems, and transport management software.\n\nLocation: Yorkshire\nSector: Container Transport / Logistics / Port Operations\nMonday to Friday | 10-hour shifts between 06:00 – 18:00 | Occasional weekend support (paid overtime)\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nPlan and coordinate container transport operations across Yorkshire.\nManage daily transport schedules for containerised freight.\nEnsure compliance with transport regulations and operational procedures.\nBook and manage Port and Rail Terminal VBS slots.\nLiaise with drivers, depots, customers, ports, and rail terminals.\nOptimise vehicle utilisation and route planning.\nMonitor KPI performance and service levels.\nProvide proactive customer service and manage client expectations.\nEssential Skills & Experience:\n\nProven experience as a Transport Planner within the container / haulage sector.\nStrong working knowledge of container logistics, port operations, and rail terminals.\nExperience using TOPPS (Container Transport System).\nExperience with VBS (Vehicle Booking Systems).\nStrong understanding of UK transport compliance and container movement regulations.\nExcellent communication skills (written and verbal English).\nHigh proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).\nStrong IT skills with ability to adapt to new transport management systems (TMS).\nExcellent organisational skills and attention to detail.\nAbility to work under pressure in a fast-paced logistics environment
