Due to continued growth, we are seeking an ambitious and driven Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team. Based at our Gusto Group Head Office in Collingham, Newark, and reporting to the Construction Operations Manager, this role presents an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within a dynamic and forward-thinking residential construction business. The successful candidate will support the financial management of both commercial and residential construction projects, working closely with the quantity surveyor, operations manager, site managers, contractors, and clients to ensure that costs, contracts, and financial controls are managed effectively from inception through to completion. The role will also involve conducting regular site visits to assess progress, supporting valuations and cost control, and arranging and attending meetings with clients, contractors, and internal teams across Gusto Construction.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Cost Management
Assist in preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets, and financial forecasts
Undertake cost analysis for new build housing projects
Monitor and manage project costs to ensure delivery within budget
Support the preparation of tender documentation and analysis of returned bids
Assist in procurement and negotiation of subcontractor and supplier packages
Scrutinise subcontractor costs to ensure best value
Project Support & Delivery
Review construction drawings and prepare quantity take-offs
Assist with feasibility studies and cost planning
Support value engineering and cost-saving initiatives
Document and manage variations, ensuring budgets are updated accurately
Prepare regular cost reports for internal stakeholders
Risk & Compliance
Assist in identifying, analysing, and mitigating commercial risks
Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures
Maintain awareness of current construction contracts and regulations
Support adherence to health and safety standards across all projects
Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with site managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients
Build and maintain effective working relationships across project teams
Support the operations manager with reporting to senior management
General Duties
Attend site visits regularly to maintain project awareness
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
Manage personal development in line with company expectations
Support the Gusto Group Building Sustainable Communities process
Undertake any additional duties required to support the role
What we are looking for
23 years experience in Quantity Surveying within the housing sector
Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail
Good understanding of residential construction processes and cost control
Proficient in Microsoft Excel
Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships
Motivated, organised, and eager to develop professionally
A willingness to get involved in all aspects of the commercial function
Must hold a full Drivers license

Package Details:
Salary will be depending on experience. Range between £29,000 - £32,000 per annum. Paid monthly on the last working day of each month.
You will be contracted to work 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
25 days annual leave per year plus bank holidays. This increases by 1 day after 2 full years completed service, then another day after 4 years and another day after 6 years service
up to a maximum of 28 days plus bank holidays. Days are deducted annually from leave for a full business closure at Christmas.
Pension contribution is 4% employee and 3% employer.
