Stafforce Recruitment is proud to be recruiting for a Customer Liaison Metallurgist for a leading manufacturer within the stainless steel sector based in Sheffield. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established and highly respected business, playing a key role in technical customer support and product development.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide dedicated technical support to the business, ensuring customer expectations are exceeded while supporting operational and continuous improvement targets.

A primary focus will be supporting customers with general claims and machinability performance, delivering metallurgical expertise and on-site technical guidance across the UK and internationally.

You will work closely with commercial and operational teams to drive market growth, enhance customer satisfaction, and strengthen the company's reputation within machinable austenitic stainless steels.

Key Responsibilities

Act as a key link between Commercial and Operations teams
Maintain direct technical relationships with customers and suppliers
Conduct UK and international customer visits, providing hands-on metallurgical support on machinability topics such as tool life, surface finish, and process optimisation
Support sales teams during customer meetings, technical presentations, and marketing events
Provide technical support to rod and bar production teams to maximise yield and minimise defective material risk
Investigate customer claims thoroughly, ensuring root cause analysis is completed and corrective actions are implemented and audited
Respond promptly to technical enquiries and review customer specifications for integration into operating systems
Manage and oversee customer trials through the manufacturing process
Drive product development and continuous improvement projects
Support IMS compliance, including ISO 9001 standards

Candidate Requirements

Degree (or higher) in Metallurgy, Materials Science/Engineering, or related discipline
Strong understanding of austenitic stainless steel metallurgy and machinability
Experience in a technical, customer-facing role
Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Hands-on machining or tooling experience desirable
Knowledge of rod, rebar, and bar production methods advantageous
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
