Sports Coach

Thrive Education are recruiting for an enthusiastic Sports Coach with SEN experience to join a wonderful Special Needs schooll in Knowsley. This is a unique dual-role position that combines Teaching Assistant duties within the school’s SEN provision with delivering engaging sports and physical activity sessions for students who have a range of additional needs.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about helping young people achieve their potential—both in the classroom and through sport—while building confidence, wellbeing, and social skills.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN, in line with their EHCPs.

*

Plan and deliver inclusive sports and physical activity sessions adapted for pupils with autism, social, emotional, and other learning needs.

*

Foster teamwork, participation, and resilience through engaging physical activities.

*

Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques when required.

*

Collaborate with the SENCO, teaching staff, and external professionals to maintain consistent, high-quality support.

*

Promote inclusion and pupil engagement, ensuring every child feels valued and supported.

Requirements

*

Proven experience supporting children or young people with SEN
Strong behaviour management and ability to tailor sessions to meet individual needs.

*

A patient, energetic, and creative approach to working with pupils.

*

De-escalation Training (desirable).

*

Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
